Design Directory: 150+ Design Resources | Free + Open Source

140+ design resources we actually use, visualized as a universe. Open source. Totally free

We turned our favorite design resources into a *universe*.

If you’ve ever searched for design tools online, you know the drill — massive GitHub repos with thousands of links, half of them outdated, organized in a way that makes you close the tab after 30 seconds. We wanted something we’d actually come back to.

So we curated 140+ resources we use regularly at Open Session and built a tool called the Design Directory. Instead of a spreadsheet, every resource lives as a planet in a 3D space — the bigger the planet, the higher the rating. You can fly through the universe, search by keyword, filter by nebula categories like inspiration, learning, and templates, or switch to card and table views if that’s more your speed.

Here’s what makes it interesting under the hood: all of the resource data — descriptions, ratings, screenshots, categories — was AI-generated through custom scripts we wrote into the codebase. We built pipelines that pull screenshots, scrape URLs, and generate everything programmatically.

And we’re giving away the whole thing.

The entire repo is open source and completely modular. You can fork it, swap in your own CSV of anything — plants, codebases, music, whatever — and spin up your own directory. It’s not locked to design resources.

This is **OS Open Drop #1** — a series where we share free, open-source tools and experiments from how we actually build Open Session. No gatekeeping. We’re just getting started, and more drops are on the way.

If you want the GitHub link and some tips on how to set it up, drop a comment or reply to this post and I’ll send it over personally.
